As usual with Xiaomi headphones, the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 is wrongly named by resellers generating confusion among users.
The most frequently used incorrect naming for this Xiaomi true wireless headphone is Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 but, really, this model has only 3 official names:

Unboxing the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 / Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 results in a charging USB Type-C cable and the battery case – no further accessories are included with the device.

Bass & Sub Bass
Bass of the Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 is punchy and well-rounded, yet it exhibits a bass tuning that tends more to punch than to depth.
This is a very usual bass personality on earbuds, semi-earbuds and open-back headphones; by the nature of the design itself.
In fact, this design and bass style offers some advantages over standard in-ear headphones and/or closed-back headphones, such as a lower risk of drowning sub-bass or overstepping and boomy bass.
The Xiaomi Mi Air 2 / Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2, indeed, is benefited by these aspects, offering a clean bass response and a sufficiently fun style that can give body to it’s overall sound without bleeding into mids and highs.
As you might know by now, the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 /Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 should not be the best companion for listeners who exclusively opt for EDM, trance, electronic music genres but listeners wanting a less-invasive bass might dig this earbuds.
When our team applied our custom extreme bass equalization techniques, the Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 exhibited a strange distortion over sub-bass that we only have experienced some times with other Bluetooth headphones. On the other hand, mid-bass did show some empowering of it’s punch.
The score in this category was given for it’s clean bass response but not because of a bass-heavy response.

Mids & Vocals
The Xiaomi Mi Air 2 / Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 have very clear male vocals that do not sound distant nor recessed. This characteristics join a warm but not overcooked midrange that feels full without getting congested – unexpectedly impressive.
Higher mids are very crisp which will add a feel of openness and aliveness to instruments sittings in these ranges and to female vocals.
On the other hand, this emphasized upper highs can introduce some harshness with high-pitched notes or shouty vocals.
Overall, the midrange of the Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 caught our team by surprise with a way cleaner and more refined sound than most true wireless headphones on the market, while we were expecting an either too thin or too muddy sound.
With a complex custom EQ, the midrange on the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 can be pushed for an even cleaner lower midrange, fully erasing any trace of bleeding but should be carefully retuned with an EQ over their middle mids and upper mids or they will become too harsh or might introduce boxy mids.

Highs & Treble
The Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 have a brightish style but with a sonic sensation that does not feel as open as it’s midrange nor as spacious as audiophile-grade earbuds/semi-earbuds.
Regarding detail and resolution, the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 is able to retrieve and reproduce sufficient detail for casual listening and as to fulfill the need of most average consumers – for critical and audiophile sessions, the Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 might not offer as much level of detail as desired.
Fatiguing peaks such as sibilance and piercing highs are present on the Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 and will mostly become frequent or mediumly-intense on tracks prone to these peaks.
With an EQ, highs of the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 can be retuned with great potential of refining and improving it’s brightness, detail and openness but users will have to accept a more fatiguing sound.
As with every semi-earbud styled headphones, the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 will show drastic sound quality differences according to fit, placement and seal.
The results exposed in our Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 review was achieved by placing the lower end of the earpiece pointing straight down (90 degrees with the floor)

The sound leaking out of the Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 is strong and very audible, with a leakage level that will make an absolute “No” for in-library use but that could handle daily commuting without disturbing too much nearby people.

Sound Isolation
Semi-earbuds, earbuds and open-back headphones are not and will never be efficient isolating headphones. This is not a defect nor downside of these headphones but an aspect to be considered by users that expect strong isolation.
Instead, these kind of headphones are very well-adapted for users that want some awareness of their environment or who do not a specifically looking for isolation.
As the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 is a semi-earbud, their isolation level is very low and within expected.
Note: As an evaluation standard by our team, the score in this section and “Sound Leak” are not weighted on the final average of this kind of headphones.

Comfort
The Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 are remarkably comfortable to wear, despite that nearly any of our editors are particularly fond of wearing true wireless headphones with this kind of design where the long and rigid end elongate down – like most previous versions of Apple Airpods true wireless headphones and even on the first generation of the Xiaomi Mi Air.
It is also fair to highlight that the design used on the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 / Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 will grant a pain-free experience to nearly any owner.
On the other hand, this design and the lack of any fit-reinforcing rubber sections or silicone-rings, make their fit looser than any in-ear headphone and could make them fall out of the ears during activities slightly more intense than walking or brief and gentle running sprints.
